Michal Pudelka is 21 years old and he was born in Bratislava, the capital city of Slovak Republic. Now he’s working as a creative director at Anonym Magazine and shooting for many other magazines around the world. Soon there will be a possibility to buy his photographs in galleries and also at exhibitions. It was a great pleasure for us to take an interview with Michal Pudelka and learn more about his photography and creative approach to it. Wish you a pleasent reading.
AP: Michal, thank you for giving us the possibility to interview you about your photography. It’s a pleasure for us. Could you please tell us about your first photos? What did they look like?
Michal: I started taking pictures just about one and half year ago. I always wanted to be a fashion designer but when I moved to Paris, in my foundation year of study I found out many other ways in which I can express myself. At first I was taking photos of my friends and self-portraits. And very soon magazines found my shoots and because I am a fashion lover, my fashion photography trip began.
AP: Great, you have a very good start. Well done, Michal! And do you have any formal education on photography or are you self-taught?
Michal: I was accepted to study photography at Parsons Paris School of art and design, but after some time in Paris I drop out of school and moved to Czech Republic because of my fiancée.
AP: You made a bold move, I am sure your fiancée appreciated it much. By the way, what genre are your works?
Michal: I would say you might categorize it under a fashion conceptual photography, self-portraits, collages, videos and personal projects.
AP: And how would you describe your photography?
Michal: Storytelling camouflaged expression of my inner opinions, a mirror to today’s society.
AP: It’s a nice explanation. Michal, what kind of equipment and techniques do you use to take your pictures?
Michal: It is all about preparation. Every time I have very strong vision on how things should look like at the end. I shoot film and don’t use Photoshop. Many of the clothes on my photos are hand made especially for that concrete snap. I’m also doing collages from my photos, the old fashion way, with scissors and glue. Videos I shoot on well known Canon 5D.
AP: What is the most grandiose project you had to work on?
Michal: I work as best as I can on my every project, I consider each one as the most grandiose. Every day is a chance to be better.
AP: Would you consider your self as an expert in photography?
Michal: What makes us experts? I think when I will consider myself as an expert that will be the end of my carrier because there wont be any further to go. I can say I’m very sure about photography and I still have a huge way of experiencing in front me.
AP: Michal, please tell us about the formula for success in your creativity?
Michal: I just shoot with my heart, put my work on the Internet and magazines and galleries then contact me. Or they find my works in other magazines.
AP: Is there someone who supports you in your creativity?
Michal: Parents are the dearest, because they always supported me in everything. My fiancée David gives me all I need to emotionally function and create new photos. Katarina Gyu, my closest friend, producer, stylist and assistant is the biggest help. We make all the fashion shoots together and I would say she is my next pair of hands. I love her because she always believed in my vision and no matter what she was and still is here for me.
AP: Would like to wish something to our readers at AstrumPeople.com?
Michal: Dream and believe.
