Drawings by Irtsya Boyko: the Game of Black and White Colors

Irtsya BoykoAP: Tell us some words about yourslef.

IB: I was born on February 22, 1992 in Krivoy Rog, Dnepropetrovsk region, Urkaine in the family which was not related to creativity. I started attending children’s art studio since I went to high school. And I’ve been studying there for six year.  Also I often participated in district and regional exhibitions, I was a member of the Gifted Children Union in Krivoy Rog city. Since 2008, I became involved in book graphics and studied under the guidance of teachers.

In 2009 I entered the Pedagogical University at the Faculty of Arts, Art and Graphics department. I am an active student in university life, I am the head of my group. I also received a personal grant named after G. Gutowski from the Mayor of the city. I participated in collective exhibitions and has held two solo exhibitions at the Central Exhibition Hall and the Exhibition Hall of State Pedagogical University of Krivoy Rog city.

AP: Your first works. What did they look like?

IB: At the age of five years, I became seriously ill and was bedridden, I could not move, but since I was a very active baby, my parents could keep me in bed by giving me an album and pencils. These funny drawings my mom still keeps somewhere. The most valuable things are that they have my comments, recorded by my mother, on the back side of the drawings.

I did not particularly stand out in the art studio. I wrote quickly, boldly, clearly and sometimes I was lacked of perseverance. And only after I was fascinated by graphics and became involved in it I obtained perseverance, scrupulousness, thoroughness.

Irtsya BoykoAP: Do you have any formal education in your sphere or were you self-taught?

IB: Currently I am 3rd year student of Pedagogical University of Arts department. I am  getting a degree in art as a teacher and artist. I work with graphics on my own and consult with the Krivoy Rog artists and teachers at the university.

AP: What genre are your works?

IB: I am impressed by romantic fantasy and symbolism. I draw when I have free time. The complexity is only the lack of it, since most of my time takes the study. I like to work in black and white colors. But I although tried to work with color, too. But the black and white colors won!

AP: How would you describe your works?

IB: I’m just doing my favorite job and involved into favorite type of creativity. Thus I am trying to express myself, my thoughts, feelings, outlook on life, desires and dreams.

AP: What kind of equipment and techniques do you use?

IB: I can only experiment with a different type of paper and color of it. In general, for graphics you should have a piece of paper, any pen, marker, liner etc.

AP: Would you consider yourself as an expert in this sphere?

IB: “I’m not a magician, I’m just learning…” Of course, I strive to become an expert. As they say “A bad soldier is who does not dream of becoming a general”. I’m excellent student at the university and at the same I work with graphics and participating in exhibitions.

Irtsya BoykoAP: What is your success formula? Do you participate in the contests, projects, exhibitions etc.?

IB: “Every day when we wake up, we have a brand new twenty-four hours of life. What a precious gift! We have the opportunity to live these twenty-four hours so that they have brought peace, joy and happiness to us and others! (C)” here is the formula of my life. I am an open honest person. I have many friends. I am sociable and smiling.

I aspire to become professional in this field. I would like to open a gallery, that would help young talents to develop and show themselves to people.

The main exhibitions which I participated in:  Kyiv, House of Artists – Triennial of Graphics – All-Ukrainian Contest of Graphics named after G. Yakutovych;  Kiyv, Museum of Modern Art of Ukraine – “Ukrainian Art Week” – 1st and 2nd place holder; Krivoy Rog City Exhibition Hall – the team show “Believe in yourself” – April 20, 2011 – 3rd place holder for the drawing of “The Magical Breath of East”.  And many other more:) Now I am preparing for the solo exhibition in Zaporozhye city.

AP: Is there someone who helps you in your creativity?

IB: My parents support me much! Oddly enough, but I am lucky. An integral part of my work is my right hand and brain that never sleeps!:-)
