Ben Heine is talented photographer and visual creator from Belgium. His approach to photography is very exquisite and unusual. Ben combines the the role of photographer and artist at the same time. One of his projects Pencil Vs Camera turned the idea of photography itself. It was a real pleasure for us to take and interview with Ben Heine. AP: Ben, it’s nice to meet you and we are happy you agreed to give us an interview. Could you please explain what you do in a few words?
Ben: I’m a visual creator, I make drawings, paintings and I take pictures.
AP: Tell us about the first steps you made in your creativity?
Ben: I started drawing simple things, it was not very creative, I was just learning the techniques on my own.
AP: And what inspires you on a daily basis?
Ben: I’m mainly inspired by nature, animals, architecture, people around me, love, friendship, death…
AP: What kind of equipment and techniques do you use?
Ben: I like “Mixed Media”, I mix different techniques and creative processes to generate new forms of expression.
AP: Is it challenging to combine the role of photographer and artist at the same time for example in Pencil Vs Camera paper art?
Ben: Any kind of work is challenging. I think every photographer is an artist.
AP: What has been your most difficult creative challenge so far? How did you deal with it?
Ben: Pencil Vs Camera was the most easy for me when I started it, it’s getting more and more difficult as I try to come with new ideas all the time.
AP: What is your success formula?
Ben: There are no formula. I just keep it going all the time.
AP: What is your dream project?
Ben: I’d love to become a musician.
AP: Is there anyone who gives you support in your creativity?
Ben: Yes, several close friends and my beloved father.
AP: Could you give any piece of advice for those who try to discover their talent and cultivate it?
Ben: Find deeper and deeper, all the talents are in every human, training, determination and hard work will bring them to life.
